HTC unveiled their first UMPC or as some call it the big brother of their HTC Advantage. At the CTIA WIRELESS 2007 HTC showed the HTC Shift for the first time. Bringing Windows Vista to a mobile device of such caliber is a fascinating thing without any doubt.
The HTC Shift is based on the Windows Vista Business OS and is said to have support of the Aero visual theme which would definitely look good on the sliding 7″ widescreen touch sensitive TFT display with a Wide-VGA (800×480 pixels) resolution.
The goodies of the new UMPC don’t end here – add to those the 30GB hard drive, 1.2GHz VIA CPU, 1GB RAM, hardware QWERTY keyboard, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support plus UMTS/HSDPA capability as well as Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi.
The device will also be equipped with a front-mounted 1.2 megapixel webcam that would also serve video calls in 3G networks plus an innovative fingerprint sensor which can be used for security reasons.
As far as pricing is concerned, the HTC Shift will be positioned somewhere in the price segment of mid-range laptops. The HTC Shift is expected in Europe and the US in Q3 2007.
