The mostly Christian population of Bulgaria celebrates this beautiful spring holiday with many rituals. They go to church and take home willow twigs for good health and to protect them from evil and sickness.
Those willow twigs replace the palm leaves which the citizens of Jerusalem used to greet Jesus. Early in the morning every Bulgarian family puts willow twigs on the door of his home.
The Palm’s Sunday is one of the biggest holidays in Bulgaria, which is exactly one week before orthodox Easter. This holiday represents the greeting of Jesus in Jerusalem.
Today many Bulgarians with names of flowers or trees celebrate their name’s day. Happy name’s day to all of You!
